Welcome to PadFoots & ToeBeans!

Introducing the Crew….

These are the official household records as documented by Marlowe, the self-appointed historian of one delightfully chaotic home. Every member of the household has a story—from wise old dogs and gentle souls to fearless kittens, lovable troublemakers, and everyone in between.

Inspired by real pets and real adventures, these illustrated stories celebrate friendship, family, second chances, laughter, and the everyday moments that become the best memories.

Because every PadFoot leaves tracks... and every ToeBean leaves a little mark on your heart.

MARLOWE

Chief Executive Feline Officer (CEFO)

ToeBean-in-Charge

Welcome.

Obviously, it all begins with me. My name is Marlowe.

This is my house.

These are my people.

Those are my dogs.

Those are...my other cats.

They all seem to believe they are making their own decisions.

I allow this because it keeps morale high.

As the oldest cat and acting Chief Executive Feline Officer, I have accepted the responsibility of documenting the daily operations of this household. This includes extraordinary acts of bravery, questionable life choices, unauthorized zoomies, missing treats, suspicious noises at 3:17 a.m., and the ongoing struggle to keep Malachi from making catastrophically poor decisions.

Every story contained within these records has been carefully observed, thoroughly investigated, and occasionally improved for dramatic effect.

My staff refers to this place as "home."

I refer to it as Headquarters.

Should you continue reading these official household records, you may discover that every padfoot has a story...

...and every toebean leaves its mark.

Welcome to my house.

Try not to step on anyone while you're here.

MATILDA

Chief Comfort Officer/Nanny Dog/Ambassador to all

Longest-Serving Member of the Padfoot Crew

People often assume I am in charge of this household.

I permit this misunderstanding.

The truth is, every successful organization requires someone who keeps everyone else from falling apart.

That someone is Matilda.

She arrived before the rest of us (with the exception of Buddha - but he doesn't "serve" he exists) and has quietly accepted the responsibility of making every new arrival feel like they belong. Cats. Dogs. Tiny humans. Frightened rescues. It makes no difference to her. If you've found your way through the front door, you've somehow become one of her people.

Her official duties include professional napping, quality control of unattended snacks, warming blankets, supervising lap time, and maintaining physical contact with Mom whenever possible. While these responsibilities may appear unremarkable, I assure you they are essential to the continued operation of this household.

She is remarkably patient.

Exceptionally gentle.

And possesses the extraordinary ability to make everyone around her believe that everything is going to be alright.

Even Malachi.

Especially Malachi.

Should you ever find yourself wondering why this house feels like home, I recommend locating Matilda.

You'll understand.

FINAN

Director of Friendship & Mandatory Cuddles

Olympic Athlete (According to Finan)

Every household has one employee who believes he is an elite athlete.

Ours is Finan.

He proudly maintains a rigorous training schedule consisting of sprinting at impossible speeds on the cat wheel, celebrating his accomplishments, and immediately requiring a three-hour recovery nap.

I have reviewed his methods.

While unconventional, they appear effective.

He also possesses the remarkable ability to occupy an entire lap despite being, by all measurable standards, a single cat. If a warm blanket or an available chest can be located, Finan will find it first. His preferred place of business is directly on Mom, where he performs his official duties as Professional Heart Healer and Full-Time Purring Machine.

The tiny human remains something of a mystery to him.

She is loud.

She moves at extraordinary speeds.

And despite being significantly smaller than most adults, somehow generates considerably more excitement.

Finan has concluded that the safest course of action is to observe her from a comfortable distance until she remembers that quiet cuddles are an acceptable activity.

His beginning was not an easy one.

He spent his earliest days surviving on his own before finding himself in need of someone willing to take a chance on him. Mom did exactly that...and promptly spent the next several weeks making frequent visits to the veterinarian while assuring him that everything would be alright.

I suspect he believed her.

He certainly does now.

Today, Finan considers every lap a privilege, every meal a celebration, every nap well earned, and every person a potential friend.

He reminds us daily that sometimes the gentlest hearts simply needed someone to notice them.

I'll keep him around. I kinda like the lil (bigger than me) guy....

MALACHI

Director of Security (Probationary)

Chief Executive of Poor Decisions

Every household has that one employee whose confidence greatly exceeds his experience.

Ours is Malachi.

He has personally appointed himself Head of Security despite possessing an impressive talent for startling himself, losing arguments with kittens, and forgetting what he was doing halfway through doing it.

He desperately wants to be brave.

Unfortunately, his enthusiasm often arrives several moments before his common sense.

He patrols the yard with unwavering determination, announces the arrival of squirrels as though they represent an immediate national emergency, and firmly believes every unfamiliar sound deserves a full-scale investigation...provided someone else goes first.

His relationship with the cats is...complicated.

He chases them because he wishes to play.

They chase him because they wish to educate him.

Neither side appears satisfied with the arrangement.

Despite his questionable decision-making, Malachi possesses one of the biggest hearts I have ever encountered. He adores his people with every ounce of his being and has never met a stranger he didn't hope would become a friend.

Should you ever find yourself in need of unwavering loyalty, enthusiastic encouragement, or someone willing to inspect absolutely everything simply because it exists...

...Malachi has probably already volunteered.

Twice.

SARAH

Acting Queen of Everything

Tiny Terror of the ToeBean Crew

Every organization eventually hires someone with absolutely no experience...

...and entirely too much confidence.

Meet Sarah. She is the smallest member of our household.

She is also, according to Sarah, approximately the size of a tiger.

I have reviewed the evidence...She is not.

Yet every room belongs to her. Every toy belongs to her. Every lap belongs to her.

...she asks no one's permission. (not even to eat out of my bowl - HOW RUDE!)

Sarah has a tiny half-tail that wiggles with great authority and despite weighing little more than a respectable afternoon snack, she issues demands to creatures several times her size. She routinely challenges dogs who could accidentally sit on her, informs the rest of us that personal space is merely a suggestion, and somehow remains completely convinced that every decision she makes is the correct one.

It is worth noting that Buddha and Malachi deserve considerable credit.

Without Mom's very clear instructions regarding "the kitten," I suspect those two would have settled her arrival with an enthusiastic game of Paws, Paper, Scissors to determine who received the first bite of the tiny troublemaker.

Fortunately for Sarah...

...they adore Mom more than snacks.

Which, in Sarah's case, was exceptionally fortunate.

I confess she has grown on me.

Very slightly.

She possesses an enormous heart, fearless curiosity, and enough determination to power the entire household. She will undoubtedly become a magnificent Maine Coon someday.

For now...

...she remains a tiny whirlwind of ears, fluff, opinions, and remarkably poor risk assessment.

She is exhausting.

She is disruptive.

She has interrupted no fewer than seven of my scheduled naps this week.

She is also...

...rather cute.

Not, of course, as cute as me.

Let's not be ridiculous.

~Buddha~

BUDDHA

Original PadFoot

Keeper of the Old Stories

Before I continue, there is something you should understand.

Some dogs earn respect because they are loud.

Buddha earned mine because he never had to be.

Long before the rest of us found our way here, Buddha had already seen more of the world than any creature should. He spent years surviving on his own, followed by years waiting for someone to notice that beneath the serious face and cautious eyes was simply a dog who had forgotten what it felt like to be safe.

Many people looked at Buddha and decided they already knew his story.

They were wrong.

Then Mom came.

She spoke softly.

She was patient.

She believed him before he believed himself.

And from that day forward, Buddha made exactly one decision.

Where Mom goes...

...I go.

He listens to her as though her words are the only ones in the world worth hearing. If she tells him everything is alright, then everything is alright. If she says, "Leave the cats alone," then the cats are left alone. End of discussion.

His hobbies now include sleeping, supervising Mom from a distance of approximately three feet, accepting blankets with quiet appreciation, and loving the tiny human with the same gentle devotion he offers everyone fortunate enough to become part of his family.

People sometimes mistake his calmness for laziness.

I know better.

After spending so many years simply surviving, Buddha has finally learned how to rest.

I believe he has earned it.

Should you find him asleep—and you probably will—please allow him to continue.

Heroes deserve their naps too.

🐾 GUEST BIO- Ezra 🐾

Classification: Alleged Bird
Marlowe’s Classification: Blue & Gold Pterodactyl
Residency Status: Thankfully, Part-Time
Threat Level: Airborne

It has been brought to my attention that I have not appropriately introduced the so-called bird I encountered upon taking up residence at the Estate.

An oversight, I suppose.

Though I maintain that describing this creature simply as a bird is wildly insufficient.

He is better classified as a blue and gold dinosaur.

The pterodactyl with the particularly alarming beak and equally concerning claws is known as Ezra.

I first encountered him shortly after my arrival and immediately recognized a rather serious problem.

Ezra's lodgings are positioned directly beneath one of the highest known vantage points in the living space.

Naturally, I intended to occupy it.

Unfortunately, doing so would require passing directly over the residence of a large, unpredictable, winged creature equipped with bolt cutters for a face.

I elected to postpone the acquisition.

For now.

Fortunately, I have since learned that Ezra is not always present at the Estate.

Apparently, he maintains accommodations elsewhere and visits periodically, which means I do not consider him a permanent member of my staff.

This arrangement is satisfactory.

When the dinosaur departs, I am free to occupy the upper level of his lodgings at my leisure.

As it should be.

There is, however, something particularly important that must be documented about Ezra.

He flies.

Not the little fluttering nonsense one expects from ordinary birds.

He soars through the living space.

From his lodgings.

Across the room.

Directly to Big Human.

On cue.

He then lands upon her shoulder and assumes his position as though he is some sort of First Mate.

I beg to differ.

There appears to be some confusion regarding the organizational structure of this Estate.

I am in charge.

Big Human is here to oversee operations and attend to the needs of the Padfoots and ToeBeans.

However...

I suppose if Ezra considers himself Big Human's First Mate, then technically he would be assisting her in assisting me.

Very well.

I can work with that.

Big Human also spends a considerable amount of time meticulously training the dinosaur to fly on cue and perform what the humans call...

"tricks."

How humiliating.

Imagine performing tricks for humans.

This poor, misinformed feathered annoyance clearly does not yet understand what Big Human is actually here for.

Nevertheless, after these training sessions conclude, Ezra eventually returns to wherever it is he permanently resides, leaving the Estate peaceful once again—and, more importantly, leaving the highest elevation of the living space available for occupation.

Still, I cannot ignore the obvious territorial complication.

There is only room for one undisputed authority at this Estate.

And preferably only one creature capable of reaching the highest perch.

I shall therefore continue considering diplomatic solutions to the Ezra Problem.

Perhaps relocation.

Perhaps voluntary surrender.

Perhaps...

Hmm.

The Lil Human has already demonstrated certain vulnerabilities regarding patio-door security.

Maybe our little operation could solve two problems at once.

Or, as the humans so disturbingly put it...

kill two birds with one stone.

...

Poor choice of phrase.

Even I have standards.

For the record, no birds shall be harmed.

Probably.
